November 17th, 2022 is National Hiking Day, also known as “Take a Hike Day”
Not only does San Diego have beautiful beaches, but there are plenty of hikes to explore as well. No matter what your experience level, you can find a range of hikes to meet your needs. Here are 5 hike to get you started exploring the wonderful San Diego outdoors.

1.) Fortuna Mountain Trail
Mission Bay Trails is one of San Diego’s top locations for outdoor activities. This loop will take you around both North and South Fortuna Mountain. Dogs are allowed, but must be on a leash.

2.) Los Penasquitos Canyon Trail
The Los Penasquitos (Little Cliffs) Canyon Trail is located 30 minutes north of Downtown in the Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve. This mostly flat trail is great for runners, hikers, and you can bring the kids. There is a $3 parking fee at the lot located off Black Mountain Road.

3.) Tecolote Canyon Trail
This popular in and out hike for hikers and mountain bikers is mostly flat with a few inclines. If you’re feeling adventurous, there are plenty of side routes to take as well.

4.) Cowles Mountain
Another awesome trail in Mission Trails Regional Park, Cowles Mountain is one of San Diego’s most popular trails. with 360 degree panoramic views on a clear day this is definitely a hike to check out. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

5.) Iron Mountain Trail
Iron Mountain Trail is also a very popular trail with hikers and runners which leads you to the second highest peak in Poway with great views. You’ll definitely need to bring water, hat, and sunscreen on this hike as there is no shade. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
